Welcome to our Winter Newsletter, hot on the heels of the ‘Winter Wonderland Ball’. Before we round up some of the things that people have been doing to help us support families living with cancer, we would love you to watch our new film – either click on the link below or catch it on our website or Facebook page.
Our massive thanks, as ever, is to the remarkable families who took part in making our new short film – it is never easy and takes great courage to do it. Also thanks to the wonderful nurses Naomi and Nina, to actress Dervla Kirwan and to film maker Ross Chapman and the team at Solent Creatives. We hope that this might inspire you to take on a challenge for The Joe Glover Trust in 2018!
A couple of last chance ‘shout outs’ before Christmas …
Jumpers For Joe
If you haven’t organised anything for charity at your office or family celebration yet, there is a simple answer – have a Christmas ‘Jumpers For Joe’ Day and ask everyone for a contribution (we suggest £2). Send us your photos – we’ll be putting them on our Facebook and Twitter pages. A lot of schools have signed up this year and are hugely grateful to them and all the children who are supporting us – it means a lot.
Christmas Cards for sale
Only £3 for a pack of 10 with 2 designs. Designed by artist Simon Chadwick and sponsored by Longdown Activity Farm . Please email Jane if you would like to order some and we will get some into the post straight away – firstname.lastname@example.org
The Annual Ball
What a wonderful night! Huge amounts of goodwill goes in to the Annual Ball each year, as everyone who supports The Joe Glover Trust comes together to celebrate achievements and raise money while having a great evening, with glamour, laughter and friendship, an amazing atmosphere, good food and dancing. We would like to offer our huge thanks to sponsor Eurotech to MC Steve Lewis, to our amazing band The Strand, to auctioneer David Erskine-Hill, to the very kind people and organisations who donated the prizes and to every single person who came along and made the evening so very memorable. We raised nearly £20,000 which is phenomenal and will make a huge difference to some very special children and their families.

Winchester Round Table
Thanks to Winchester Round Table and the generosity of the people of the City, the bucket collection at the Bonfire and Fireworks this year raised £3,105 for the Trust.
The Strand Christmas Party
On Saturday 10th December The Strand Band held their Christmas Party where they invited all their friends and families. Each year they support The Joe Glover Trust with their raffle on the night. Many people kindly donated prizes for the raffle and their guests as always were incredibly generous and we raised in total £1030 which was fantastic. Thank you to all involved – it was a great night.
Evolution5 celebrated their 10th birthday and invited us to give a brief talk at the celebrations. They generously donated £800 from the evening, raised by their guests.
Longdown Activity Farm
Longdown has supported the charity for many years. In October we took part in their ‘Spooktacular’ Halloween weekend, spending a happy couple of days playing Halloween- themed games with children and parents alike and talking about the work we do.
Winchester Half Marathon
Among the 2,000 runners was a team from Trethowans, who raised over £2,000. Entries for next year’s half marathon and children’s Fun Run are already open at http://winchesterhalf.co.uk/. We have places and will be encouraging you to sign up after the New Year!
Charity Golf Day
An amazing £5483 was raised for the charity by the 17 teams gathered in August for our Charity Golf Day at The Boundary Lakes course at the Hilton at The Ageas Bowl. We were lucky with the weather and the course, with its shimmering lakes, provided a tough test that was enjoyed by all. We will be planning another Golf Day in 2018, so let us know if you would be interested in joining us with a team or can recommend a challenging course! Huge thanks to everyone who took part and donated so generously.
In August, the Basingstoke Barracudas held a Charity Ice Hockey Tournament in Basingstoke to support us, which raised a whopping £2,400.

Over the last ten years we have been blessed by a core of incredible people who have made The Joe Glover Trust the success it is today. Many of these people were motivated by Joe and his family personally. One of the focuses for the charity as we move into 2018 is to recruit lots of new volunteers to ensure that The Joe Glover Trust continue to build on this amazing legacy. We are looking at how best to increase our fundraising reach by seeking ‘fundraising teams’ in Dorset, Wiltshire, IOW and Hants and will be attending all sorts of events in the next year to drum up support. If you know people who may want to help, please contact: email@example.com
Family Days Out
This year Mark and Ella of Four Seasons Yacht Charters extended their generosity and, as well as donating a day’s sailing for 10 as an auction prize at our Ball, invited families to take part in a sailing ‘Days Out’. Four families took part over two days in July and August and all had a wonderful time – ’We had an amazing afternoon sailing, we cannot thank Mark and Ella enough. Thank you Joe Glover Trust for making it happen’’.
The Railway Children
In October, we supported 10 families to see ‘The Railway Children’ at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre. ‘Thank you so much for arranging the tickets to see The Railway Children … We all thoroughly enjoyed the show, and it was lovely to spend time as a family.’
